ΚΑΤΑΡΡΑΚΤΕΣ ΕΔΕΣΣΑΣ : Ο Νο 1 ΠΙΟ ΑΞΙΟΘΑΥΜΑΣΤΟΣ ΣΕ ΟΛΗ ΤΗΝ ΕΛΛΑΔΑ ΑΠΟ ΤΟΥΣ 10
Στην Ελλάδα, τη χώρα της απερίγραπτης ομορφιάς, δεν θα μπορούσαν να λείπουν οι καταρράκτες, φυσικοί και τεχνητοί, που συνθέτουν εντυπωσιακά μέρη. Θαυμάζοντάς τα, νιώθεις πρωταγωνιστής σε ένα παραμύθι, όπου αναδύονται νεράιδες και μυθικά πλάσματα.
Σας παρουσιάζουμε, λοιπόν, μερικούς από τους πιο αξιοθαύμαστους καταρράκτες που κρύβονται σε αυτή την ευλογημένη χώρα!
1. Έδεσσα
Στην Έδεσσα, σε αυτήν την πόλη που φημίζεται για τους καταρράκτες της που δημιουργήθηκαν φυσικά μετά από έναν ισχυρό σεισμό που έπληξε τη γύρω περιοχή τον 14ο αιώνα, θα βρείτε ένα ιδιαίτερο γεωπάρκο με πλακόστρωτα δρομάκια και πέτρινα γεφύρια στα βορειοανατολικά της. Οι καταρράκτες είναι συνολικά 12, αλλά μόνο 4 είναι ορατοί στους επισκέπτες, ενώ οι υπόλοιποι κρύβονται από την πλούσια βλάστηση. Φυσικός δημιουργός τους είναι ο ποταμός Εδεσσαίος, τα νερά του οποίου διασχίζουν την πόλη πριν ορμήσουν στους καταρράκτες. Ο μεγαλύτερος και πιο εκθαμβωτικός καταρράκτης, ο Κάρανος, ξεχύνεται δυνατά από ύψος 70 μέτρων, δημιουργώντας ένα πυκνό σύννεφο σταγονιδίων.
In Olympus, the place of high peaks and alpine plateaus that the gods chose to inhabit, and not by chance, reaching the foot of the highest mountain you will encounter verdant gorges and running waters. The stream of Orlia, in the area of the village of Vrontos, forms a unique scenery with the waterfalls. From the chapel of Agios Konstantinos you reach the first waterfall in just a few minutes, while, continuing the path next to the ravine for about an hour to the Red Rock with the big waterfall, you will see an unimaginable beauty. If you choose to dive into the icy waters as well, you will feel immortal, becoming a part of mythology. In the passage of the Neda, the river on the border of the prefectures of Ilia and Messinia, it crosses a gorge with narrow passages and places with waterfalls, where small natural lakes are formed. You will find the largest waterfall near Figalia. And if you are not a nature lover, you will be, since along the way you will encounter a unique landscape with bridges and waterfalls, water mills, lush vegetation, caves and lakes with crystal clear waters. However, to be among the “privileged” who enjoy Neda to the fullest, quite a bit of hiking is required. The crossing of the gorge usually takes two days, requires good physical condition and is done with companions. However, if you prefer a simpler excursion, you can visit a part of it by descending from the village of Figalia to the stone bridge, then walking west for 15 minutes and gradually reaching the two waterfalls and their lakes, through small wooden bridges. Did you think Messinia is only famous for its oil? The incomparable beauty of the region is composed of a multitude of landscapes. In the center of the prefecture of Messinia, near the village of Charavgi (34 km from Kalamata), one of them is hidden, a fairytale and dreamlike setting with lakes and waterfalls from the waters that pass through the Polylimni gorge. Following the route to Lake Kadis, you will come across an idyllic waterfall that pours its waters from a height of 25 meters. In the heart of Thessaly, towards the mountain villages of Trikala, you can admire a special beauty in the ravine of Paleokaria, where the crystal waters of the small river Paleokaritis flow. The imposing 26-meter single-arched stone bridge has been standing there since the 16th century, flanked by two artificial waterfalls, while the waterfall behind the bridge is 12 meters high, and the falling water composes a magnificent scenery that leaves no visitor unmoved. In the village of Theodoriana in Tzoumerka, from whichever corner you want to admire the landscape, you will see water flowing from everywhere, which springs from at least 50 springs that exist in the surrounding mountains. Just before the entrance of the village, following the path that leads to Markos stream for about 40 minutes, you will come across an idyllic landscape with successive ponds along the way. In the opposite direction, the waterfalls of Souda, which you will meet in just 15 minutes from the end of the village, flow rapidly from a height of 25 meters. You will find a miracle of nature in the prefecture of Evrytania and it is none other than the “Panta Vrechi” gorge, between the villages of Roska and Doliana or otherwise Stournara, south of the prefecture. Accessible all year round, in Karpenisi, being in the heart of Central Greece, do not miss to visit Panta Vrechi, where you will encounter a fairytale setting. Enjoying the natural landscape with the rich fauna, you have the possibility to follow two routes that lead to an impressive sight. The special name is not accidental, since in an area of the canyon that reaches 80 meters, frozen waters coming from the mountain of Kaliakouda, in their attempt to join the waters of the Krikeliotis river, find a way out from springs on the tops of the canyon, creating unique waterfalls. However, their great height does not allow them to have a continuous and solid flow, but a large radius is created with small and large drops, forming continuous artificial rain. So, as you can see, the setting is enchanting and extremely impressive. And what does Kythira (or Tsirigo, if you prefer) not have to offer the visitor, who is seduced by the beauty and uniqueness of each attraction of the island. In the village of Mylopotamos there is one of them, and you will find it by following the sign indicating the waterfalls in the area. Through a path of plane trees and running water you will end up at the waterfall called “Neraida ” or “Fonissa ” which falls from a length of 20 meters forming a lake, in which you can swim, if you are brave! Continuing the hike beyond the waterfall you will come across the abandoned water mills and smaller ponds that make up a magical setting straight out of a fairy tale. The famous island of the Knights, among the multitude of unique landscapes it has, from the castle town to the Acropolis of Lindos, includes in its palette the small waterfalls in the Butterfly Valley, completing its painting! Northwest of Rhodes, therefore, 5km southeast of the village of Theologos, there is a unique biotope in an area of 600 acres that belongs to the Natura 2000 network. The Valley is home to a rare species of butterfly, the Panaxia Quadripunctaria. A walk in the forest will rejuvenate you, since the landscape with rare butterflies, rich flora, paths, small waterfalls, lakes and wooden bridges is unique, recommending a living museum of nature! In the village of Livaditis, 50 km northwest of Xanthi, a treasure is hidden, as the tallest waterfall in the Balkans, known as the waterfall of Livaditis or Trachoni, stands tall there. The steep waters falling from a height of 40 meters make the waterfall rushing and noisy, due to gravity. The village is located a few kilometers after Stavroupoli, on the borders of the Prefectures of Xanthi and Kavala. To reach the waterfall you have to follow a hiking trail that starts from the village at an altitude of 1,260 meters and ends at 860 meters. The route on the marked path will reward you, whether you prefer hiking or cycling, eventually reaching the beautiful waterfall. Next to the village “spills” the forest of Haidous with Arkudorema, a forest area, a monument of nature, with many trees over 250 years old. Following the 4km marked path through a verdant route starting from the Forest Village of Erymanthos, you will reach the top of Gyftokastro at 1,745 meters, from where you will have a panoramic view of Bulgaria. In Crete, the island with its unique beauty, wild beauty and rich geomorphology, it would not be possible to miss the waterfalls. In the north of Lasithi Prefecture, between Agios Nikolaos and Sitia, is the Richti Gorge. The path that crosses it, with a total route of about 3 km, starts northeast from the village of Exo Mouliana and reaches the rocky beach of Richti, east of the village of Kalavros. The gorge, which is a state protected park, gathers the waters of the Drymias plateau of Mount Orno through two streams, the Lachanas and the Mesa Moulians, which join at the beginning of the path. On the route, which starts from the stone arch bridge of Lachanas, you will encounter an oasis of lush vegetation of plane trees, sage trees, oleanders, wild berries, local flowers, aromatics and herbs, local species of butterflies, small reptiles, birds and small mammals. The idyllic landscape is complemented by stone bridges and watermills before reaching the 20m high Richti waterfall, which forms a captivating pond at its base. Completing your course, outside the gorge you will come across the pebbly beach of Richti! And not to leave you wondering, well, the word richtis means “waterfall” in the Cretan idiom. Unique treasures and wonders of nature are hidden in every corner of our country.
